How to lengthen a dress: ideas for beginners and professionals. How to make a skirt from a knitted dress

It often happens that your favorite clothes do not have time to serve their purpose. It’s especially frustrating in situations where things no longer fit. Not every fashionista agrees to put her clothes in the closet and wait until she loses weight. In addition, not everyone succeeds in losing weight quickly. But you don’t have to wait for this time - it’s enough to restore the thing before it goes out of fashion. In addition, often several items in a wardrobe are connected to each other, that is, if one fails, others instantly become unnecessary as well. Therefore, today we will tell you how to remake a skirt, if it is too small, in the most popular and simplest ways.

Ways to widen a small skirt

At the moment, there are several ways to widen a tight skirt, which, for example, has “risen” at the waist; they are considered the most effective and simple. These include the following methods:

  • The pencil model can be enlarged by inserting it into the upper part of the side seams and on the waistband. It is better to make inserts in the form of a trapezoidal or rounded entrance to the pocket. Wedges are inappropriate here.
  • To increase the size of a pencil skirt at the waist and hips at the same time, you need to make inserts from the waistband along the entire length to the very bottom. You can also use a detachable zipper as an insert - it is simply sewn into the side or middle seam.
  • To increase the product by a couple of sizes, it is enough to make an insert at the front from a different material, due to which the canvas itself will expand.
  • A straight model can be converted into a wrap skirt; to do this, you need to insert an expanding part made of a different material.
  • It's even easier to widen a flared skirt - just cut it off at the top. Only in this case it is necessary to take into account that the clothes will become much shorter.

We will talk later about which modification option is suitable for specific purposes, because first we need to consider no less important nuances.

The process of expanding a small skirt has certain conditions:

  1. If there is no material left in the allowances, then the product will not be altered.
  2. It is better to refuse expansion if the skirt is different in color from the allowances. This often happens when things fade in the sun or fade during washing.
  3. It is better not to alter items made from thin fabrics, since holes from old seams are too visible on them.

Important! It is quite difficult to increase any clothing by more than one size, because not every item can withstand it.

How to increase the size of a skirt on the hips with your own hands?

As we have already found out, there are several methods for increasing the size of a skirt, including a leather one. First we will look at the option of widening in the hip area.

To do this job, prepare the following tools:

  • Small scissors, blade, steamer.
  • Sewing machine.
  • A needle.
  • Thread.
  • Tailor's centimeter.
  • Iron.

It is necessary to carefully prepare for the expansion of the product, perform the following preparatory work:

  1. Measure your skirt's hips and your hips. Determine the difference between these values, divide it by four.
  2. The resulting figure is the very amount by which the skirt needs to be increased. The easiest way is to change each allowance by this number in centimeters.
  3. Carefully inspect the allowances, because it is important that they have a sufficient supply of fabric. If there is not enough material, then it is better to forget about this idea.

Extend the product according to this scheme:

  • Open the skirt at the seams. Use a steamer to iron all seams.
  • Place the halves of the product together, pre-mark new seams, then baste them.

Important! If you have already sewn something before, you can immediately take up the basting thread. Only in this case it is better not to change the darts.

  • Sew the seams, then press.
  • If the skirt has hooks or buttons, be sure to sew them too.

Important! This method can also be used to shrink clothing.

How to widen the bottom of a narrow skirt yourself?

This option is suitable not only for widening things from below, but also on the hips. This method of increasing the skirt is best used for models that consist of wedges.

You will need:

  • Meter of fabric.
  • Blade.
  • Steamer.
  • Scissors.
  • Threads.
  • Needles.
  • Sewing machine.

Important! Material consumption directly depends on how much you want to expand the item. If you need to add just a couple of centimeters from the bottom, then the amount of fabric will be equal to the amount of expansion. Be mindful of seam allowances. You can choose any fabric by color. But for girls who want to look slimmer in the hips, it is better to give preference to dark fabrics, so that the color is several shades darker than the skirt itself.

You need to do the following to increase the size of the skirt at the bottom:

  1. Determine the size of the future item, measure the volume of the product, decide how many centimeters are missing.
  2. Cut triangles of the required size from the auxiliary fabric. Be sure to take seam allowances into account.
  3. Spread the garment from the bottom to the very hips, smooth the seams with an iron.
  4. Insert the resulting triangles into the resulting gaps. Then sew them together with a basting stitch.
  5. Try on the skirt to see if this width is enough for you.
  6. Sew all seams, then iron.

Important! You can also use satin ribbon for this method, for example, sew it on the sides in the form of stripes. Godet skirt models are expanded by inserting satin ribbon on the bias into all seams. To embroider a circle skirt, just cut a piece of fabric of the required length, then put it on top instead of a belt. Due to this, the main line will drop a little lower.

How to stretch a small skirt?

In this section we will give several examples of how to stretch a skirt yourself, without the help of specialists and without using a sewing machine.

You can stretch the product as follows, based on the type of material:

  1. Cotton clothes should be soaked in warm water with vinegar added. It is enough to leave it in it for half an hour, then lay it out on a terry towel on a horizontal surface, stretch it in different directions to the desired size. Then the clothes are laid out on a dry towel until completely dry.
  2. The wool skirt should be placed in a bowl of warm water and a mild shampoo or special wool softener or conditioner should be added. Clothes after this treatment are stretched in small sections until they are completely expanded. Then dried at room temperature.
  3. Woolen items can also be stretched using a special solution of water, vodka, turpentine, ammonia. You need to pour five liters of water into a container, add three tablespoons of alcohol, a spoonful of vodka and turpentine. The skirt is then soaked in the solution for an hour, rinsed and stretched by hand.
  4. The knitted item can be soaked in warm water and left for 20 minutes. Then load it into the washing machine and wash it on a no-spin cycle. Next, just stretch the skirt with your hands and let it dry. It is better to dry the product vertically so that it does not return to its previous state.
  5. A pencil skirt made of leatherette and genuine leather can be stretched by steaming. You need to hang it over boiling water and leave it for a couple of hours. The main thing is to make sure that its edge is located directly above the water.
  6. To stretch the length of the skirt, you should wash it, then thoroughly moisten it, hang it in a vertical position and attach a small weight to the bottom.
  7. To increase the width of a denim skirt, just wet it and pull it on a wide metal hanger. As soon as the fabric is dry, you need to put the skirt on yourself and walk around in it a little.

“A good housewife will never waste anything!” our wise grandmothers said and passed this advice on from generation to generation. Indeed, why not create something new out of the old, why let good things go to waste when you can make something original and even exclusive out of them at any moment. Every home has old things that are tired and out of fashion, but it’s a shame to throw them away. Use your imagination, which may tell you how to sew a skirt from a dress or decorate it. Today we will try to tell you more about this and give some original tips.

Necessary materials and tools: old dress; wide elastic band; scissors; pins; matching threads; sewing machine.

1)Necessary

All you need to sew a skirt from a dress is an old boring dress, basic sewing supplies, a wide elastic band and two measurements - the waist circumference and the length of the future product.

2) Making a belt

To sew a skirt from a dress, first cut off the excess elastic from the prepared elastic; its length should be the circumference of your waist plus 2.5 cm for seam allowances. Fold it in half, right sides together, and sew the short edges, leaving 0.5 cm from the ends. This way you have the simplest belt in a matter of minutes. Set it aside.

3)Measure the length of the skirt

Measure the length of your dress from the waist, subtract the length you want the finished skirt to be and cut off the excess. Our dress had a length of 69 cm, and the future skirt was supposed to be 60 cm long, so we cut off the extra 9 cm. Then rip or cut the skirt from the bodice with scissors. You should end up with a large rectangle.

4) Collecting folds

Set your sewing machine to its longest setting and begin sewing two lines along the top of the dress. Leave a long thread behind you. Then gather the skirt into pleats by pulling the thread. Gather it to the size of an elastic band.

5) Sew the skirt to the elastic band

Attach the skirt to the elastic waistband using pins. Using a small zigzag stitch, sew the raw edges of the skirt to the waistband. Make sure you cover the entire edge to avoid future tangling. Remove any remaining pins from all marks. We ended up with a beautiful skirt made from an old dress. Wear it with pleasure!

If you get tired and the length of this skirt will no longer be fashionable next season, at any time you can shorten the skirt to the knees or even make it a revealing mini. Experiment, implement your plans, and your image will always be original, bright and intriguing!

But we don’t say goodbye to you here, come back again!

Hello! My name is Sasha Sanochki and I run the Second Street blog, dedicated to stylish and creative clothing alterations. Every day I publish 5 new materials on this topic.

It was not I who personally made all these alterations without exception. But for almost two years every day, I get up at 5 am to find (before work) 5 fresh and interesting ideas for remaking clothes from old to stylish, translate them, process all the photos, making them in the same style, write a post and publish it . In two years, exactly 3,000 of them accumulated.

Every day, in search of materials, I scroll through about 4,000 sites in the reader, and only a third of their materials relate to handmade or fashion - I find the rest of the ideas in gossip columns, style com, films, music videos and even magazines like Forbes sometimes. I just want to collect it all in one place.

I would like to show you at least a few of the 3,000 ideas accumulated on the site over 2 years:

I decided to choose only 5 ideas for each of the popular types of clothing alterations over the past month, because it’s difficult to choose from 3000 equally interesting ones). And I tried to choose those that can be shown here without dragging in a bunch of photos with master classes

So, here we go:

5 ideas for altering T-shirts

1. Alteration of the vest:

I love alterations of vests). It couldn’t be simpler: a vest + a bowl of dipping paint. Looks unrealistically cool).

2. Playing with the texture of the T-shirt:

A long cotton T-shirt can be cut into circles, then washed at high temperature - the sections will curl and will not “creep” (just don’t wring it out in the machine!). Wear with a dress or leggings and a T-shirt.

3. How to tag a guy:

TeenVogue and designer Erin Fetherston give you an idea: smear your lips with acrylic paint (yuck, yuck, yeah) - and boldly leave a mark right on the collar of his T-shirt or shirt. After drying, all that remains is to iron it with the hottest possible iron - and your bookplate is on it forever. IMHO, it doesn’t look very good on women’s clothing:

...and for men - that’s it). A sweet idea for faithful and gentle lovers and a hot/playful idea for notorious machos).

4. Shirt and T-shirt dress:

What does it mean to combine beautifully)) - take a closer look - the dress is actually a mix of shirts and T-shirts cut and sewn together.

5. T-shirt - blinds:

Tutorial on how to remake two T-shirts into something like a "blinds" T-shirt for $48 from Anthropologie - can be found on the site, it's too detailed to copy.

5 ideas for jeans alterations

1. Piece Jeans:

I think this fit would be difficult to achieve if they were actually sewn together from pieces. So, most likely, these are thin summer jeans, onto which pieces of other summer and thin ones that match in shades have been sewn. And then they cut off the bottom layer in places. In my opinion, there are only a couple of places where the main fabric up to the knees on top was actually replaced in some area with another.

2. Ulyana Kim dress:

A very beautiful combination of two types of jeans!

3. Isabel Marant Painted Jeans:

Painted jeans idea by Isabel Marant Permanent marker in hand - and go!

4. Reworking a men's T-shirt and jeans:

Listen, well, in my opinion, this is just wildly cool! Something really interesting and wearable for guys. And for girls too. I think that you can decorate both a bag and the back of a jacket with belts in this way.

As a bonus to the picture, here’s a slightly rocker way to slightly increase the length of your jeans or save those that are frayed at the knees). Although with old, stretched and worn out jeans, I think it will look pathetic.

It’s better to use both ideas if HE decides to quit his career as an office plankton and finally become a rock musician. For the first concerts - that’s it).

5. Teddy bear made from old jeans. Just a bear):

5 ideas for shoe alterations:

1. Men's creative business shoes:

It happened, yes, it happened 5 times already. But in this case I liked the execution - on strict men's shoes. With a business suit and tie, it should break the mold of impressionable partners. You say goodbye after the meeting, they come out from the table to shake your hand - and when they see the shoes, they hang out)….

2.Shredded Converse:

Shredded Converse the famous model of sneakers - legends of the Converse family, released last year and ideally suited for the hot summer of 2010). They look desperately vintage - shabby, as if crumbling as they go. Ideal for delicate girlish dresses, relaxed knitwear, denim mini-shorts and skinny jeans. They have become an unusual and stylish alternative to the uniform of Moscow streets - ballet flats, gladiator sandals and high-heeled webbed sandals.

Next summer is promised to be just as stuffy, so it makes sense not to throw away your old sneakers, but to repeat this “trick” on your own - at the same time you will save $80 (regular Converse costs from $40, and the Shredded model, which is in the photo - $120).

Everything is quite simple, take nail scissors and go ahead, so below I will list just a few “essential” tips from the source (links to all sources are in the entries on the site):

1. When cutting rectangles between the blocks, make sure not to cut the rectangle behind the leg, at the heel. There should remain a dense rectangular section intended by the manufacturer - it is this that will ultimately hold back the entire structure.

2. Converse sells these models with or without a tongue, depending on the color. Decide what is more convenient for you. If you decide to cut it, draw the same semicircle around your fingers (the same depth) as on your favorite ballet shoes - and cut boldly. It should be 1-1.5 cm wide - wider than the “rubber nose” of a sneaker. It will look like this:

3. It is convenient to make a “tear” along the cuts simply with your fingers. Rub the edges thoroughly between your fingers as shown in the photo below. The lining of Converse frays more than the top colored thick fabric - so it’s better not to rub it, just the top colorful layer - it will quickly fray to the width of the top layer.

3. How to decorate men's shoes with spikes, but nobly:

In this case, the shoes alone (especially if there’s a casual jacket on top) would completely captivate me.

4. Painting shoes with markers and paints:

A great idea for shoe decoration from artist Deborah Thomson. Deborah uses popular techniques with tattoo designs on shoes, and paints wedding shoes, etc. and so on.

5. Shoes with painted soles:

An original move is to paint not the shoes themselves, but only their soles. It doesn’t bend as much as the toes of shoes, for example, which means the paint in these places won’t crack. Provided you have a high heel, you will be able to see well. For example, I always notice untorn yellow price tags on shoes in these places when I follow someone along the path)).

5 dress alteration ideas

1. Designer: the back of a sports T-shirt and a sexy dress:

I think it's very cool! From the front, you’re probably a standard “sexy kitten” – and when you turn your back, you show the world the other side of yourself – sporty and perky). And the difference in color only emphasizes this.

The jumper on top - in my opinion, looks like a strap from a cheap sports backpack)).

2. Dress with slits:

Beautiful texture and a way to revive an old dress by throwing a second one on top. On the top dress, if it is made of acetate silk, the design can be “burned out” with a standard wood burner. At school we used to burn out entire lace collars for each other during handicraft lessons.

3. Glowing paints:

Remember, earlier at VDNKh, for example, in the Culture pavilion, luminous paints for fabric were sold in departments with various luminous nonsense? In small round plastic tubes. In addition, they are often found in various stalls, especially for some reason near the station).

This is what you get if you paint clothes with them:

One of my friends used these tubes (of different colors) to paint a dress with a paisley pattern with such luminous colors. I simply placed dots of different colors along the contours of different cucumbers. Since during the day this paint is translucent, and the color she chose (and the dress is colorful) - during the day it was completely unnoticeable. And at night it was a bomb! It looked very even - not at all vulgar, as elegant as possible - apparently due to the subtlety of the design.

4. Decorate a simple dress:

A zebra is not a zebra, a mask is not a mask... in general, this is how, with the help of appliqué, an ordinary white trapeze dress was given an almost mystical look.

5. NedoBeckham reworked a Joseph Altuzarra turtleneck dress.

A new up-and-coming designer is Jezzef Altuzarra and his idea (he clearly sympathizes with Victoria Beckham and her models) to remake the sweater dress:

You will need:
Cotton jersey turtleneck dress (they used American Apparel).
Two shoulder pads.
Scissors, needles and threads.

The recipe for “feeling a little Vicky” is simple:

We cut off the sleeves so as to leave the “wings” at a slight angle.

Using the remnants of the sleeves, we cover the overhead “hangers” on one side.

We hem them on the inside of the dress, at the same time slightly bending the edges.

5 ideas for altering jackets

1. This jacket costs $410 - and the required quantity of pins costs 500-700 rubles. And every second person has a jacket in the Chanel style;).

2. An idea for remaking a jacket from the 2011 lookbook by Junky Styling designers.

3. Jacket with transparent back:

A jacket with part of the back replaced with a transparent insert. In the show room, the top of the jacket consisted of two parts, one on top of the other: when altering your jacket, you can simply cut it and sew transparent fabric folded inside, sewing it into the side seams:

By the way, did you notice the ribbon decor on the trousers?

4. Another Zara coat:

Zara seems to have finally remembered where they started and started making “edgy” things again. Another Zara coat in my selections is further confirmation of this.

The original reverse side of the collar - usually the leather is sewn there (it also allows you to keep the collar “raised” - for example, that’s the only way I walk). It can be made from a beautiful tie) - it looks like that’s what was done here.

5 shirt alteration ideas:

1. Shirt makeover idea from ASOS.com:

2. Pants - saruel from a shirt:

Shirt alterations. If everything is clear with the top (everything was cut off at the level of the pockets and elastic) - then an explanation of the fact that how to make pants a la “saruel” from a shirt– see under the cut:

Source material).

Having outlined a semicircle, we sew the collar along it.

We steam the pockets carefully - they will prevent the shirt material from draping plastically.

In the end it should look like this (after you sew up the hole where the collar should be):

The design is adjustable at the waist with a knot).

3. Unusually “stained” shirt:

Ingenious, unusually soiled shirt)! In a bright cage - turquoise - purple - I will definitely repeat it for myself. It will be enough, I think, to dip it 6/8 in black paint on fabric like Dylon (it doesn’t need to be heated, boiled, or other perversions).

4. A neat way to reduce your shirt size:

5. Hybrid:

Hybrid GMO shirts and hoodies from Hussein Chalayan.

5 accessory ideas

1. 0_o suddenly!

Garter chain for stockings.

2. Congenial Clutch:

One of the few easy-to-sew clutch bags, which only benefits from ease of manufacture. And the pattern for such a clutch couldn’t be simpler and is sold in every second store - I just bought croissants at Azbuka Vkusa today, for example) - in a craft bag of the ideal size for this purpose.

3. Ring bracelet:

If you have been proposed to 8 times and you have never returned the ring, you can make a bracelet out of them and wear it proudly, like a savage, a necklace made from the scalps of defeated enemies. Well, kind of like how stars are painted on airplanes for those shot down in battle).

4. Shoulder straps on the coat:

To make leather shoulder straps like this on a coat, all you need is leather from one glove. Another thing is that they need to be “supported” with something - for example, a belt made of leather of the same texture.

5. Bags and backpacks made from leather jackets:

We have written many times about bags made from old leather jackets. But personally, I adore, firstly, backpacks, and secondly, this simplified, a la masculine, style in bags:

I couldn’t even choose what to show you – I liked everything so much! And the prices are quite realistic, not inflated.

and for a snack - 5 interior ideas:

1. T-shirt rugs:

Laura is a seamstress with over 20 years of experience and great taste. That is why she was able to build a successful business on what many people are trying to make money from: recycling T-shirts from second-hand stores into carpets and rugs.

Laura's rugs always attract attention with their subtle color combinations and original shapes. 20 photos - under the cut (and there you will also find a link to the photo - a master class on crocheting a similar rug - the main thing there is to understand how to hide the ends by tying cut T-shirts together). Laura herself, in my opinion, braids them, after which she painstakingly sews the braids together ( I would like to know what kind of machine or foot she manages to take such thickness). It takes her 3-4 months to make one carpet from T-shirts.

2. How to decorate a wall with old magazines:

Idea for super budget wall decor from Irina: these strips are simply rolled up and flattened magazine pages glued to a base.

Moreover, you can decorate not only the wall, but also vases in this way:

And photo frames:

3. Bears - pillows made from shirts:

Annika Jermyn sews bears from old shirts, calling them Mister _ below is the individual name of each _ and sells for $75. You can even order from your own shirt. The toys are large – 40 centimeters high and 48 centimeters wide.

4. Pillows with interesting textures:

Handmade sofa cushion with an ingenious texture. For such labor-intensive work, $265 is not a pity.

Although this $110 pillow with a British flag made of leather is no worse.

5. Cool dude, yo! Mr. Ben Venom makes quilts from old T-shirts with heavy metal prints in the same style. For connoisseurs, so to speak).

In general, I invite you all to visit Second Street who are interested in the topic of clothing or interior alterations)).

PS. The last thing is that we have competitions there, participate with your ideas, the prizes will be good)!

If you really want to update your wardrobe, this is not a reason to spend money. You can make a new item with your own hands from those things that are tired of lying idle in the wardrobe. The easiest option for a new dress is a forgotten skirt.

Women are conquering the fashion world just like men. Very often, representatives of the fair sex wear breeches and shorts for convenience, but there is nothing cuter than a woman in a dress. Such a lady immediately changes her gait, gestures and gaze, she radiates tenderness and defenselessness.

Almost every fashionista has one at home that she once liked and brought joy, but now, for a number of reasons, is gathering dust in the closet:

  • came out of ;
  • does not fit in size;
  • don't like the length;
  • I'm tired of it.

You can breathe a second life into a boring long skirt with your own hands. To do this you will need the skirt itself, a needle, a spool of thread, scissors, a sewing machine and imagination.

Light pleated skirt dress

The starting material is chiffon or polyester.

Inspect the product, check for abrasions, holes, and defects. If necessary, wash the product before converting. Replace old and yellowed rubber.

Sewing the dress:

  1. Undo the hemmed hem. Place the skirt on a flat table surface and mark the future pattern by eye.
  2. The waistband of the skirt will be the neckline of the dress. Make cuts on both sides to a depth of 15 cm, from the neck 25 cm - these will be air sleeves in the form of wings.
  3. Remove parts of the fabric from the wing to the hem.
  4. Overcast the edges of the sleeves, hem them with an overlocker or trim them with bias tape.
  5. Turn the product inside out and sew the side seams on both sides.

The new dress is ready, all that remains is to tie it with a belt made from the remnants of a skirt or a strap in a contrasting color.

If the product has only one seam, then it is placed exactly along the back and care is taken that it does not move when cutting the product.

The neckline can be decorated with embroidery, flowers or a brooch, and can also be trimmed with lace.

Summer sundress dress

To create a light summer sundress, wide, thin, airy ones are suitable. skirts made from natural materials– skirts with a wrap or “gypsy” cut.

If the skirt has a wrap, then you need to cut off the ties from it, leaving a one-centimeter edge for the seam. Baste and then sew the skirt from the bottom of the hem to the waist using a machine. Put the skirt on over your chest, make notes on the level of your bra straps. From the cut ties of the skirt, measure and sew straps for the sundress.

In order to cover your bare shoulders, you can sew wing sleeves made of the same fabric as the skirt or light chiffon to match the color of the future dress to the straps of the sundress.

To make the wings, you will need a circle of fabric with a diameter equal to the length of the sundress strap. The circle is divided in half, resulting in two wings for two sleeves. Use a zigzag or bias tape to trim the edge of the sleeve, and sew the diameter to the strap. Now, instead of a sundress, it’s a light, flirty dress.

Dress with flounce on the shoulders

If the store doesn’t have new clothes to your liking or they are too expensive, there is always a way out - to sew a summer outfit with your own hands. A dress with a charming flounce on the shoulders is suitable for parties and summer walks.

For such a dress you will need a piece of fabric, or even better, an old forgotten floor-length skirt, as well as:

  • spool of thread;
  • linen elastic;
  • tailor's tape;
  • scissors;
  • sewing machine;
  • iron.

Separate the belt from the skirt, rip the resulting fabric apart at the seams, forming two rectangles. From these, cut out a size of 66 cm by 90 cm. The trimmed bottom of the skirt will be useful for a flounce measuring 132 cm by 32 cm. Sew the details of the dress on the sides, leaving 25 cm to the edge for the armhole. Iron the seams, turn them under and stitch the armhole.

Sew the shuttlecock along the side edge, smooth it out and overcast it.

Use pins to fasten the middle of the flounce and the middle of the base of the dress, forming a T shape. Sew the flounce to the base from the front and back from one armhole to the other.

Sew the top of the dress on a machine with a seam width of 1.5 cm. For the elastic, leave an unstitched area of 1 cm. The length of the elastic is equal to the length of the shoulder circumference. Insert the elastic and stitch the edges using a typewriter.

Hem the bottom of the flounce and dress by machine or by hand.

Sew a belt from leftover fabric or use a ready-made belt.

Beach dress with skirt

The once-favorite skirt now seems baggy and even old-fashioned. But you can use it to make an original light beach dress. For this you will need:

  • T-shirt and old skirt;
  • needle and spool of thread;
  • scissors and strap.

The skirt needs to be laid out on the table and the elastic band on the waist must be removed.

Place a T-shirt on the fabric, trace the contours of the neckline and armhole. Cut out the dress from the skirt along the contours. Sew the shoulders (they are made in any width - from narrow straps to the middle of the shoulder), sew the seams on a sewing machine. The dress is ready, all that remains is to tie it with a belt.

Floor-length skirt dress

For a light flowing dress you will need:

  • a long ankle-length skirt that fits freely on the chest;
  • piece of fabric for sleeves 60 by 65 cm.

Open the waistband of the skirt, attach a tank top or T-shirt, trace the contours of the neckline and armhole. Cut out sleeves on a piece of fabric, print the finished pattern or copy it from a T-shirt or. Don't forget about seam allowances. Baste the sleeves along the elbow seam from top to bottom.

Measure exactly the middle of the front of the dress and gather the top of the dress with a strong thread. Tighten the neck to your taste.

Measure the length of the neck. Sew a white fabric ribbon, folded in half, for elastic along the contour of the neckline.

Make the sleeve three-quarters or arm length, but insert the elastic into the sleeve.

Sew seams using a sewing machine.

All that remains is to wash the dress and tighten the elastic.

Dress without sewing

For transformation, you don't always need scissors and a needle and thread. , raised to the chest, will sit perfectly. A jacket and a scarf around the neck - the look is ready.

The elastic skirt will also fit snugly on the chest and will fit without straps.

In our wardrobes there are things that have not lost their relevance, but due to minor changes in the figure they lie in the far corner of the closet and make us sigh longingly looking at the once favorite thing. For example, the skirt is not fastened at the waist, but at the hips it is quite loose; feel free to take out your sewing machine and get your scissors ready. Today I propose alteration of the skirt in the belt. In front of us is the original skirt of my customer, she really likes it, fits well, emphasizes the miniature figure. When walking, the lower part of the skirt sways, playfully drawing the eye to the slender legs. Definitely a skirt like this to live with! Moreover, alteration will take much less time than sewing a new one.

begins with removing the belt. We will “plant” this skirt on the facing. The skirt is lined, with a zipper in the center of the back. To avoid losing the slider, insert pins halfway along the zipper path. Now we need to do a fitting. In some skirts, you just need to remove the belt, in others you will have to open the front dart, in others you need to lower the waistline.

During the fitting, we chose the third option. You need to cut it along the waist line. Match and pin the side seams at the waistline. Align the top edges along the entire waistline and secure with pins. Step back from the top cut, the number of cm that you noted in the fitting, mine is 4 cm. And parallel to the top cut at a distance of 4 cm, draw a new waist line. Cut off by 1 cm for an allowance for processing the belt.

For the facing pattern, place the top cut of the skirt on a sheet of paper so that the cut lies freely, does not stretch or wrinkle, and trace with a pencil the cut and part of the middle of the front and back.

Indicate where the shelf is and make an assembly mark for the side seam. The width of the facing is from 6 cm or more. Draw a second line parallel to the top line at a distance of 7 cm. Give an allowance of 5 mm where the middle of the front is indicated; the facing will consist of two parts with a seam in the center. There is no allowance needed on the back side. According to the pattern, from a fabric matching the color, cut out the facing part and the adhesive interlining. The lobe on the facing coincides, or at least tends to, with the middle of the shelf. Reinforce the facing with non-woven fabric. Connect the two facing parts, spread the joint seam and iron it.

Open the lining by 10-11 cm if it is sewn to the zipper; if not, set it aside.

Connect the middle of the front and the facing, the side seams of the skirt with the mounting notches on the facing and moving to the middle of the back perpendicular to the cut, insert pins. The facing ends at the beginning of the zipper; this was done on purpose so that during further processing the middle seam of the back would look neat and would ensure movement without obstructions for the zipper slider.

Now align the side edge of the facing and the back seam where the zipper is sewn. It is shown here that the skirt is folded in relation to the facing; this result must be achieved.

Sew along the facing from the top edge, close to the zipper links. But do not sew the facing completely, not reaching 2.5-3 cm to the bottom edge, there we will subsequently sew on the lining.

An important detail in a skirt is the loop by which the skirt is hung. Turn over the facing and pin the loops from the front side to the side seams. If a careless manufacturer did not make such a loop, then make it from a narrow satin ribbon. The length of this tape is 15-17 cm.

Now bend the allowance for connecting the facing with the zipper onto the facing, the tail (photo 8.) will go away, pin the allowance so that it does not move. Place a stitch 1cm from the top edge of the skirt, removing pins as you go. Turn out the corners of the zipper and compare the height, adjust if it is not the same.

Fold back the facing. Sew an edge stitch along the facing, bending the hanger tapes onto the facing.

The stitching on the facing will begin at a distance of 3-6 cm from the zipper. I marked the beginning with a chalk line. Steam the waistband.

Now we need to trim the lining. If the lining is not connected to the skirt, then fold the sides together, pin the top edge together and, retreating downwards by the width of the facing minus 1 cm, draw a parallel line. 7-1=6 cm. Cut off excess. If the lining is attached to the skirt, then step back the same 6 cm from the top edge along the entire length, draw a chalk line and cut off the excess. Mark the middle of the shelf. Connect the lining and facing at the side seams and align the centers, stitch at a distance of 5 mm from the cut. Finish the remaining part in the zipper area.

Steam the lining. The wrong side.

The final touch is to secure the facing so that it doesn’t come out. Insert a pin above the seam connecting the facing and lining.

Unfold the lining and sew the facing to the side seam allowance.

Completed and before us renewed and loved again.
